Road Trip (virtually)

The Abstract Landscape series began around the same time as the COVID19 lockdown. The initial goal was to learn about cold wax medium in a small format. It became apparent that I enjoyed the restriction of a small surface and creating the illusion of light and space with wax and texture. After finishing the first ten or so, I realized that these small pieces reminded me of looking out of the car window while on a road trip. In fact I have files of photographs taken from the car window while travelling. There is often the same atmospheric fuzziness especially in the older print photos. I would watch the world go by and imagine all kinds of wonderful lands or gateways to other worlds. The freedom of travel will again be feasible but for now I settle with recreating the images in oil and wax.
